Alternate ACCESS for English Language Learners

Alternate Model Performance Indicators (AMPIs) were created to accommodate the three new ELP levels (i.e., Initiating, Exploring, Engaging) assessed by the Alternate ACCESS for ELLs. AMPIs are modified versions of the WIDA ELP Standards' model performance indicators (MPIs). An MPI is "a single cell within the standards' matrices that describes a specific level of English language proficiency (ELP) for a language domain. An MPI is the smallest unit of a topical strand." An MPI consists of the language function, example topic-the context or backdrop for language interaction within school, support (sensory, graphic or interactive)-a necessary avenue for ELLs to access meaning, and an example.

AMPIs are now available on the WIDA Alternate ACCESS page.
